H2Ohio Project Funding and Metrics

H2Ohio is Governor Mike DeWine’s initiative to ensure safe and clean water in Ohio. It is a comprehensive, data-driven approach to improving water quality over the long term. It is a collaboration between the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA). H2Ohio focuses on encouraging agricultural best management practices, restoring wetlands, and replacing home septic systems to reduce nutrients that contribute to harmful algal blooms.

ODNR is working toward the Governor’s clean water goal through the creation and restoration of wetlands. These wetlands are nature-based solutions – they will naturally improve water quality by trapping, filtering, and removing excess pollutants and nutrients, like phosphorus, from the water before they flow into our lakes and waterways and contribute to harmful algal blooms. These wetlands also provide expanded acres of wildlife habitat, and provide excellent recreational opportunities for hunting, trapping, fishing, and birding. Click “Visualize” to view the dashboard.
